The Berlingo has been taken to the next level with the launch of an all-new model range. For a start there are two lengths available (L1 and L2), although they are based on the same wheelbase. It is bigger dimensionally in every department, but one thing that remains the same is the choice of two diesel engines. Both are 1.6-litre, the maximum power outputs are 75hp and 90hp, and they are capable of running on 30 per cent biodiesel. The alternative is a 16-valve 1.6-litre, 90hp petrol unit for those looking to convert to LPG.

Citroën’s Berlingo high cube van received a major makeover for the 2003 model year and despite the launch of the

all-new models, the original has been rebadged as the First and remains on sale.

Citroën surprised everyone at the beginning of 2005 by launching a van version of its front-wheel drive C2 hatchback. At the same time it discontinued the Xsara estate-based van. It received a mild cosmetic makeover towards the end of 2008.

Citroën surprised everyone by launching a commercial version of its C-Crosser 4x4 at the 2008 British Motor Show. C-Crosser is Citroën’s take on the Mitsubishi Outlander and Peugeot also markets it as the 8007, although there is no LCV model. The conversion is undertaken locally and it has to be said that it’s to a very high standard and features a full height bulkhead, with a perspex window.
