Canter is cut above rest says tree surgeon

Date: Tuesday, June 26, 2007

Wessex Tree Surgeons has acquired another Mitsubishi Fuso Canter 3.5-tonner. The first of the latest specification Canters to join the firm, it's been fitted with a high-sided all-aluminium body made by A L Musselwhite of Romsey and designed to carry wood chippings.
Supplied through south coast Mitsubishi Fuso and Mercedes-Benz dealer Pentagon, the 3C13 follows on from two other Canter 3.5-tonners acquired by Wessex. It is protected by the manufacturer's recently extended unlimited mileage three-year warranty.

“We used to depend on van-based 3.5-tonners, but they proved to be unreliable,” recalls Wessex managing director, Gary Snellgrove. “Since we switched to Canter such problems are a thing of the past.

“It's robust and versatile with a strong ladder-frame chassis, yet still offers a decent payload,” he continues. “We also use our Canters to tow brushwood chippers and they do so with ease.

Another Canter fan is Gregg Bray of Hertfordshire-based period property renovation specialist Greg Bray Construction.

He's just acquired his third consecutive one; a 3C15 3.5-tonner with optional factory-fitted air-conditioning. Supplied through Stansted dealer S & B Commercials, it's equipped with an all-aluminium tipper body made by G M Billings of Loughton, Essex.

“We often use it to pull a two tonne trailer,” he says. “Even when it's fully loaded, you wouldn't know it was there.”
