Power hike for Hilux

Date: Monday, April 21, 2008

Toyota has answered its critics by launching a high-power version of its Hilux that is set to be the UK's most powerful production pick-up.
Based on the 3.0-litre D-4D Invincible model, the yet-to-be-named range-topper gains its power hike thanks to new engine management software from Toyota Motorsport.

The increase in power — up 77hp — sees the 0-62mph time drop from 13.0 to 10.5 seconds (11.4 for the automatic). Peak torque rises from 343Nm to a mighty 430Nm.

Toyota will bring just 500 of the high-power pick-ups into the UK, although a source at Toyota said the firm had asked for twice that number from the factory for the UK market because they expect demand to be strong.

Prices have yet to be revealed but the 197hp model will go on sale in the summer.
