Rental giant in free telematics deal
Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Self-drive-hire giant Northgate is offering customers who take a vehicle under its Norflex flexible long-term rental scheme the option of a free telematics package for three months.
It allows users to track their vans by satellite while they're out on the road and see if drivers are speeding or disappearing off route for some reason. It also helps operators to, for example, produce automatic time sheets based on actual working hours.
Industry research suggests that such tracking systems can increase light commercial productivity by 15 per cent and save 15 per cent on overtime claims. The same research indicates that insurance costs are reduced by 30 per cent because drivers are less likely to speed and have accidents if they know they're being monitored; and less speeding means lower fuel bills.
