Where has all the traffic congestion come from?

Date: Thursday, March 15, 2007

We know what's causing the ridiculous amount of congestion we all have to suffer on the UK's roads these days and contrary to the belief of most car drivers it's not vans and trucks.

Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) vehicle database show that in 1950 the UK's van and truck fleet was at 1.5m, while the car fleet stood at 2.3m. In 2005 the van and truck total was a little over 3.8m while the nation's car fleet was 30.7m. Enough said.
