Anti fuel theft device launched for vans

Date: Monday, October 26, 2009

A device to stop diesel being siphoned out of light commercial fuel tanks has been launched under the Neck-It! Van banner.

Produced by TruckProtect, which makes a similar device to prevent diesel theft from heavy trucks, it is initially available for Mercedes-Benz Sprinters and Volkswagen LTs made up to 2008; it costs £34. Versions suitable for other makes and models — the Iveco Daily is next in line — will follow.

Neck It! Van fits into the filler tank neck and is attached using a proprietary grub-screw security assembly. Refuelling can take place at the normal forecourt speed when it is in place, but any attempt to introduce a siphoning pipe larger than 5mm is likely to prove very difficult.

“We believe that fuel theft from vans — be it the loss of an entire tank or, more commonly, low-volume regular skimming — is a growing problem,” says TruckProtect chief executive officer, Russell Fowler. “Whether parked outside private houses at night, or within a depot, they have to be viewed as a soft target.”
