Boys from Brazil put electric Daily to the test

Date: Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Iveco has started testing a prototype battery-powered Daily crew cab in Brazil.

It’s fitted with three sodium-nickel-chloride Zebra batteries plus regenerative braking. Energy produced when the brakes are applied is used to help recharge the batteries. With a top speed of 44mph, the newcomer offers a range of over 60 miles.

The project involves Iveco collaborating with Itaipu Binacional. It manages the world’s largest hydroelectric generating station, on the border between Brazil and Paraguay. Iveco plans to build the electric Daily in Brazil and Itaipu Binacional aims to take the first ten.
