Fiat announces all-new Doblò

Date: Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Fiat’s high-cube light van contender, the Doblò Cargo, has undergone a complete makeover and is due to reach UK showrooms in March 2010.

The exterior styling has been completely updated with a dramatic modern front-end treatment and a redesigned cab interior, but the big news as far as the UK is concerned is that there will be two wheelbase options. The current model is built as an extended body Maxi, but it’s not available here.

Combined with a high roof option on the long-wheelbase this means that the new Doblò can offer load space ranging from 3.4m3 to 4.2m3. The width between the wheel boxes in all models is 1,230mm and the maximum load length is an impressive 2,200mm. Gross payloads go from 750kg to 1,000kg.

Engine choice has also been expanded in the new line-up with one petrol and three diesels up for grabs. Turbodiesel choice is a 90hp 1.3-litre, 105hp 1.6-litre and a 135hp 2.0-litre. Fuel-saving Start&Stop technology will be available from launch and further down the line another diesel will be added, mated to a Dualogic automated manual gearbox.

The next generation Doblò will be sold in the UK as a two-seater van and a five-seater crew van, and it will enable Fiat to compete on a level playing field against the two-wheelbase models in the same market sector from other manufacturers; Citroën Berlingo, Ford Transit Connect and Peugeot Partner.
