London LEZ extension may be put on hold

Date: Friday, February 6, 2009

London Mayor Boris Johnson is planning to suspend the introduction of the third phase of the city’s Low Emission Zone. The phase was due to start in October 2010 and would affect light commercial vehicles and vans up to 3.5 tonnes, as well as minibuses up to 5.0 tonnes.

Johnson has taken the step to help small businesses in and around the capital affected by the economic troubles. Phases one and two of the zone are already in place and will continue to be enforced. The suspension is not yet confirmed and will be subject to a 12-week public consultation this summer.
