Date: Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Export sales of Ampere, the electric version of Ford’s Transit Connect produced by Smith Electric Vehicles, are rising.

Fifty have been ordered by Dutch energy supplier Eneco in a deal worth 2.3m euros. They will be delivered this year and in 2010.

The deal forms part of Eneco’s strategy to replace 500 of its diesel vans with electric models within the next four years. Employing a lithium ion phosphate battery pack, the electric Connect has a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 75mph.
