Balfour Beatty takes the GreenRoad

Date: Wednesday, June 16, 2010

Some 1,400 commercial vehicles in service with Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions (BBUS) are to be equipped with GreenRoad 360 systems in a bid to cut accidents and fuel usage.

They’ll each be getting an LED display in the cab with green, amber and red lights that instantly warn the driver if for example he is accelerating too harshly, cornering too wildly, or speeding. A suite of online applications allows managers to look at detailed analyses of the on-the-road behaviour of drivers on an individual or a fleet-wide basis.

Several BBUS depots already use GreenRoad and report a 60 per cent reduction in risky behaviour and a cut in fuel usage of up to 10 per cent. “Our fuel bill was £12m last year so a 10 per cent reduction represents significant savings at the pumps,” says head of support services, Brent Mitchell.
