Daily is automatic choice for Fairfax

Date: Thursday, April 29, 2010

Catering butcher Fairfax Meadow has acquired 15 Iveco Dailys equipped with six-speed AGile automated manual transmissions.

The 35S11 3.5-tonners are joining 35 other Dailys based in Kentish Town, London, delivering chilled and frozen meat across the South East. The newcomers replace 10 Daily AGiles and five standard Dailys, again all 3.5-tonners.

“Our decision was based wholly on the performance of our old AGiles which have been in service since December 2005” says group national transport manager, Mike Reid. “Despite clocking up 200,000 miles apiece on roads where the average speed is just 8mph, downtime has been absolutely minimal and we’ve not had to replace any gearboxes.

“Specifying the AGile transmission has without doubt saved us money, increased fleet uptime and made a demanding job more comfortable for our drivers,” he continues. “Our next step will be to look at introducing Daily AGiles into our operations in Manchester and Glasgow.”

The latest Dailys have been acquired under a four-year full-service contract hire agreement with Fraikin, which now supplies all of Fairfax Meadow’s commercial vehicles.
