Repair specialist gets into gear Daily?

Date: Wednesday, March 10, 2010

One of the country’s leading bus and truck gearbox specialists has added a striking-looking black Iveco Daily to its 12-strong light commercial fleet. H L Smith Transmissions is using the 35S12 3.5-tonner as the launch vehicle for its new corporate livery.

Supplied through dealer Chatfields of Manchester, the newcomer is operated by a two-man crew of technicians who fit remanufactured transmission parts at customer premises. They also provide a diagnostics service; the van carries a wide selection of tools as well as the necessary diagnostics equipment.

The Daily is equipped with a light crane mounted in the rear of the load area to make it easier to lift heavy components in and out. Other features include Britax slimline roof-mounted flashing beacons which use 36 low-energy-consumption LEDs. Also fitted are twin reversing cameras sourced from Brigade which relay colour images to a split screen mounted in the cab.

Founded around half a century ago, and operating from a four-acre site in Albrighton near Wolverhampton, H L Smith employs a team of 100 transmission engineers.
