Sharp rise in November van sales

Date: Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Van registrations shot up by more than 26% to 19,128 in November in the biggest year-on-year rise of 2010, according to the SMMT.

Registrations in the first 11 months of the year were up 19.4% to 205,829 while rolling year volumes were 16.5% ahead at 219,866 as demand continued to strengthen, albeit from a low base.

Van registrations have grown since February but SMMT boss Paul Everitt warned:

“Next year will continue to be challenging as consumer and public spending tighten, keeping rolling volumes well down on pre-recession levels. However, further moderate growth is expected.”

Light van registrations rocketed 37% to 3209 in November and medium vans rose even more sharply – by 40% to 2494. Heavy vans were up 23.5% to 11,739 and pick-ups continued to recover with a 12% increase to 1231.
