Single cab Amarok due next year

Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2010

Volkswagen UK's commercial vehicle boss, Simon Elliott, has played down the significance of the introduction of a single-cab workhorse version of its eagerly anticipated Amarok pick-up towards the end of next year because of the downturn  in the market.
“The pick-up market has shrunk and shrunk again, and a high percentage in that market is lifestyle vehicles or builders. People are looking at making sure the vehicle they have is extremely flexible,” he said. “Inevitably we will sell the single cab as a pure workhorse but everyone enquiring is looking at the double cab. It will be a valued addition.”
The single cab’s load bed is 650mm longer than the double cab revealed earlier this year at 2205mm, and VW claims it will take two Euro pallets  with 60cm of space to spare. Power will come from the 163hp 2.0-litre diesel, but VW also revealed a lower- powered 122hp version at the show, which should arrive around the end of 2011 at the same time as the single cab.
