Asda chills out with Iveco Daily home delivery fleet

Date: Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Iveco has delivered 250 3.5-tonne Daily vans to supermarket chain Asda – the latest batch in a 700-vehicle order placed last year.

Following a successful trial of 50 Dailys in 2010, Iveco became Asda’s sole supplier of home delivery fleet vans for 2011 and 2012.

The latest order of Daily 35S11 chassis cabs with semi-auto Agile transmission are powered by a 2.3-litre 106hp diesel engine and are mounted with Solomon multi-compartment refrigerated bodies and Hubbard temperature control units, allowing Asda to transport a mix of chilled and frozen produce from its stores directly to customers.

Asda’s home shopping fleet now numbers more than 1600 vehicles – of which 1150 are Iveco Dailys.

Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions supplied the vans, which will be in use seven days a week and will remain on the Asda fleet for four years. To minimise downtime, servicing and maintenance will be carried out overnight through the Iveco dealer network.

Sean Clifton, Asda’s grocery home shopping fleet contract manager, said:
“Our home delivery operation is one of the most challenging applications for any light commercial vehicle, due to the length of each vehicle’s working day and the number of loads we carry every 24 hours. Despite this, the Daily is proving incredibly durable, and the introduction of the Agile automated transmission is making life easier for our drivers and helping to deliver important fuel savings which make our fleet even greener.”
