LCV fleets in health and safety driver risk warning

Date: Thursday, July 25, 2013

Businesses should put as much focus on health and safety on the road as they do in the workplace, according to John Davidge, head of fleet technical at Cardinus Risk Management.

Davidge claimed 20% of drivers cause 80% of road problems within fleets and said fleets could improve their performance by instigating safety, fuel use and maintenance regimes.
“Drivers must improve in tandem with the improvement to vans,” Davidge said, and listed the most common bad habits of speeding, tailgating and inattention. Davidge warned that when an incident occurs involving a fleet driver the spotlight turns on the operator. He urged firms to keep records of training and maintenance to keep proof of any measures taken.
