New van market recovery continues in February

New van sales grew 11.8% year-on-year in February to 9149, according to the SMMT, as the market continued its solid start to the year.
 

 Registrations in the first two months of 2013 were up 11.9% to 25,200 units.

Sales of pick-ups leapt by 72% to 1047 in February, sales of vans weighing less than 2.0-tonnes were up 12% to 1494, sales of vans in the 2.0-2.5-tonne segment increased almost 25% to 1262 and the big-selling heavy van sector rose 5.4% to 5215 units.

In the rolling year from February 2012 to the same month this year new van registrations were down by almost 5% to 242,318 compared to the previous 12 month period.

Winners in February included market leader Ford, up 19%, VW, up 38%, Fiat, up 55% and Nissan, up 68%. On the other hand Vauxhall was down marginally and Mercedes and Renault also saw sales fall.
