New van sales rise in January

The new van market made a positive start to the year with sales in January up almost 12% to 16,049 compared to the same month in 2012, according to the SMMT.

 Nigel Base, SMMT CV boss, said: “The SMMT forecasts the light commercial vehicle sector will grow almost 5% over the year with new models and greater business confidence driving the market.”

Notable sector rises included: pick-ups – up 35%, sub-2.0-tonne vans – up 13%, 2.0-2.5-tonne vans – up 20% and large vans – up 3.7%.
