Four out of five van drivers ignorant of speed limits

More than three-quarters (80%) of van drivers are unaware of the different speed limits that apply to commercial vehicles weighing over 2.0-tonnes Total Motion has claimed.

There is a 50mph speed limit for vans on single carriageways and a 60mph limit on dual carriageways.

According to the leasing company, the lack of knowledge could put drivers and fellow road users in danger.

“Our research demonstrated that up to 80% of drivers act illegally, even surpassing 90mph on motorways, whether that be through ignorance or carelessness,” said Simon Hill, managing director of Total Motion. “There are tools available, which can help fleet managers to protect their drivers.  These can include the use of telematics or speed limiters on your vehicles and we believe mandatory training for drivers should be an essential element of any fleet policy.”

The firm surveyed 400 UK van drivers.
