Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has announced it is supplying 312 vehicles to Network Rail in its latest fleet deal.

The vehicles will be used by Network Rail's engineering team. The deal includes 124 Amarok 140hp BMTs, 168 Transporter 114hp BMTs and 20 Transporter Kombi 114hp BMTs.

Network Rail said each vehicle has been selected for the business area it will operate in, with many featuring specifications to improve driver efficiency.

Network Rail is responsible for the care and maintenance of 20,000 miles of rail tracks and infrastructure as well as 18 major railway stations, 2500 peripheral railway stations, 8200 commercial properties and 32,000 bridges and tunnels.

"The combination of Volkswagen's broad model range and its dedicated national fleet support team has helped us to deliver a fleet solution that meets the needs of our business, now and into the future," said Steve Duffy, business support manager for Network Rail.

In December, it was announced that Fiat Professional had won a new fleet contract with Network Rail to provide 283 of its Doblo Cargo vans.

The vehicles are used by technicians to carry out their day-to-day operation and maintenance of Britain's rail network.

The vans are Doblo Cargo and Doblo Crew, all powered by 1.3 MultiJet II 90hp engines.
