CV Show: Renault gives UK debut to Alaskan pick-up

The main attraction on the Renault stand at the CV Show was the first UK sighting of the Alaskan pick-up, albeit in left-hand drive mode. The model was initially unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March.

Renault has still not confirmed exactly when the Alaskan will go on sale in the UK but it should be before the end of the year – and, significantly for Renault, it is likely to hit the market before the Mercedes X-Class, another debut pick-up based on the Nissan Navara, arrives in showrooms at the start of 2018.

Marina Picard, Renault’s pick-up marketing director, said the European Alaskan has started to roll off the production line at Nissan’s plant in Barcelona and would launch in France in September.

A version of the Alaskan, aimed at the massive South American market, went on sale in Colombia in October 2016.

Renault also displayed its latest Kangoo ZE, which goes on sale in mid-2017, at the Birmingham event, as well as its first electric large van, the Master ZE, for which order books will open in January 2018.
