Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed an image of its facelifted Amarok pick-up truck prior to the model going on sale in the third quarter of the year.

Like the original Amarok, which was launched in 2010, the revised version will target the premium end of the sector with a sophisticated interior combining with what the brand promises will be car-like road manners and full off-road capability.

The revised model also gets a new 3.0-litre V6 TDI EU6 engine with outputs of 163, 204 and 224hp and the towing capacity has been raised from 3.0 to 3.5t to match the best in class .

The manufacturer is confident the facelifted model will tempt customers away from the SUV passenger-car segment.

New features include climatronic temperature control, steering wheel with paddles for the eight-speed auto and 20-inch tyres. Volkswagen claimed “a more athletic front and a modified instrument panel” would emphasise the Amarok’s powerful look and enhance the vehicle’s prestige credentials.
