Fleet management firm Leaseplan UK launched a smartphone-based vehicle safety checking app at the NEC.

Commercial vehicle boss Mark Lovett said the device could help to bring HGV levels of compliance to LCVs by enabling drivers to conduct online daily vehicle checks and provide essential data to fleet managers.

Lovett said the app would allow Leaseplan to be proactive in working with its customers to call in vans to its servicing network for any necessary repairs. He added the Van Driver Check app could also show the manager which drivers have sustained the most damage or faults to their van, which may suggest driver training is required.

Another benefit, according to Lovett, is that the app can demonstrate Leaseplan has done all it can to help operators ensure the road worthiness of their fleets and to reduce downtime caused by vans needing to be taken off-road for repairs.

Commercial director Stuart Houlston added: “At the heart of Leaseplan is the idea that vans are business-critical assets.”
