February's News in Brief

Date: Monday, February 5, 2018

  • RAC Fuel Watch has warned that soaring oil prices could lead to increased fuel bills in 2018. With the price of oil rising above $70 (£50) for the first time in more than three years, the motoring organisation has predicted a knock-on affect on the forecourts. Prices have risen almost 5p a litre for petrol and 3p a litre for diesel since the start of November.
  • Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has supplied 36 Transporter vans to Bournville Village Trust, which provides housing and estate management services to more than 8,000 properties across Birmingham and Telford. The trust will use the vans in its service and maintenance division to carry out repairs and maintenance over a distance spanning 30 miles. Birmingham Van Centre supplied the Transporters, which are funded by Volkswagen Financial Services Fleet on contract hire.
  • Chargemaster, which operates the Polar network of public electric vehicle charging points, added more than 500 fast-charging points to its network in 2017, which represented 43% of all new charging points installed during the year – making it the fastest-growing public charging network in the UK.
