Piaggio has struck a deal with Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer the Foton Motor Group that will see it re-introduce a range of mini-LCVs to the UK in 2020.

The Piaggio Commercial Vehicles line -up will include the new Porter Euro 6 in panel van, fixed deck, tipper and chassis variants in left-hand drive (LHD).

Piaggio claims LHD is advantageous in that it allows the driver to exit the vehicle on the pavement side, making it ideal for frequent delivery work.

The Piaggio Ape models include the Ape 50, Ape Classic and Ape Calessino.

The zero- emission Porter Electric, available in all model variants, and Ape 50 Electric will also be brought to market. The relaunched Piaggio Commercial website includes sections on electric power and vehicle conversion options and also information on its new role as the official distributor of Piaggio spare parts in the UK.

Jason O’Neill managing director of Piaggio Commercial said: “It is an exciting time for the Piaggio light-commercial vehicle sector, especially with the planned partnership between Piaggio Group and the Foton Motor Group.

This new partnership will see the development and production of a new range of four-wheel light commercial vehicles, that will launch from 2020.”
