Renault Trucks to sell Renault Trafic van

Renault Trucks is to start marketing Renault's medium-sized Trafic van through its 73 dealerships this year. The first examples are likely to be delivered to customers in early summer.

Pretty much the entire Trafic range will be offered, but the accent will be on special conversions, where Renault Trucks believes it can leverage its expertise and that of its network. Examples will include refrigerated Trafics able to transport chilled and fully-frozen loads.

Renault Trucks UK head of light commercial vehicles, Grahame Neagus, has been working on the Trafic project for the past 18 months.

The truck maker already sells Master large vans, he points out, and adds Trafic will be a useful extra string to its bow. It promotes Master under the Red Edition banner, and will do the same with Trafic.

There are no plans to add the compact Kangoo van to the line-up, however, and no plans to offer a different warranty.

In terms of annual sales of the Trafic, Neagus said: "My aspirations run to four figures.”

"Availability will not be a problem," he added. "We've got production slots booked for the rest of this year."

He believes that offering Trafic will help boost Master sales, because some customers who initially take a Trafic may eventually want to move up to a bigger vehicle as their business grows.

Aftersales support may help to give Volvo Group-owned Renault Trucks the edge. Its dealer workshops can service and repair vehicles outside normal working hours - support most car and van dealerships do not offer.
