Toyota has opened orders for the new GR Sport II version of its Hilux pick-up, as part of an updated range line-up.

Said to be inspired by Toyota’s heritage in the Dakar Rally, the Hilux GR Sport II features chassis tweaks including a raised ride height (by 20mm) and a widened front and rear track (by 140mm and 150mm respectively).

New, lighter 17in wheels are fitted with all-terrain tyres, and larger front brake discs are provided, while at the rear disc brakes replace the Hilux’s usual drums.

A new front ‘air curtain’ structure is designed to improve the truck’s aerodynamics, while new dampers are fitted to provide a smoother and more stable ride over rough ground.

Styling features of the GR Sport II include red coil springs and coloured dampers, red brake callipers, and black detailing including mesh grilles, while there’s also an aero sport bar and soft load area cover.

Inside, there are red seatbelts, aluminium pedals, paddle gear shifters, and sports seats upholstered in a combination of black synthetic suede and leather with silver stitching and perforations.

Power comes from the Hilux range’s familiar 204hp diesel engine, and there’s a 3,500kg towing capability and 1,000kg payload.

The Hilux GR Sport II is priced at £41,523, excluding VAT.

Toyota has also announced model year upgrades for the Invincible version of the Hilux, including the addition of smart entry, an 8in multimedia touchscreen, and a reversing camera.

The previous GR Sport and Icon trims have been dropped from the line-up, which will now consist of Active, Invincible, Invincible X, and GR Sport II.
