Renault Trafic - basis for new Fiat Scudo?

Renault and Fiat have entered a partnership that will see the French brand supply its Italian counterpart with a medium-sized van based on a Renault platform.

Renault said it will manufacture the new vehicle in France from the second quarter of 2016. Fiat will develop the styling of its version of the van, which will carry the Fiat Professional badge.

The new model is likely to be a replacement for the current Fiat Scudo and based on Renault’s new Trafic, which is also sold by Opel/Vauxhall as the Vivaro, although neither Renault nor Fiat have confirmed this as yet.

The present generation Scudo arrived in 2007 as part of a joint venture with PSA Peugeot Citroen, which also spawned the Citroen Dispatch and Peugeot Expert.

But Fiat announced last year that it had terminated the agreement with PSA with a view to taking a new direction in the medium van sector when the Euro6 model arrives in 2016.
