Van for hire: New high-payload Luton

LCV rental giant Northgate has added a new low-floor Luton van with an increased payload capacity to its fleet.

Northgate said the specialist vehicles, based on Peugeot Boxer and Vauxhall Movano chassis cabs and converted by Alloy Bodies, are available off-the-shelf and provide an additional 200kg of payload compared with the base models, giving a maximum payload capacity of 1350kg, to go with its load volume of 19.5m3.

Northgate added that the low unladen load height of 600mm from the ground would ease loading and in some cases remove the need to fit a tail-lift.

Ian Eccles, UK asset manager at Northgate, said the new Luton would be available to customers on flexible hire arrangements, like the other LCVs on its fleet.

“For a customer to source this vehicle via another acquisition method (such as contract hire)
would be costly and impractical,” claimed Eccles.
“Businesses can access these fit- for-purpose vehicles without being tied into any contract,” he added.

Adam Ahmed, of glass furniture supplier Giomani Designs, which has already used the Luton van, said: “The high- payload Luton has provided us with a unique opportunity to maximise our vehicle capacity. The fact that the vehicle is offered as part of Northgate’s flexible vehicle hire service is a real added bonus, allowing us to hire or off-hire at a moment’s notice according to demand – there’s no contract, no commitment and no risk.”

Northgate said the vehicle was available to hire within 24 hours from its 70 branches across the UK.
