Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has launched a special edition of its brand-defining Transporter van to commemorate the model’s 60th anniversary in the UK.

Dubbed the Sportline 60, the new flagship replaces the current Sportline and is offered in short and long wheelbase forms and as either a panel van or a Kombi.

The exterior is distinguished from the rest of the range by features such as 18-inch five-spoke Anthracite wheels, black steel side bars, gloss black door mirror covers and special decals.

Like the Sportline it succeeds this one gets brasher styling cues than the rest of the line up with a colour-coded front bumper and lower spoiler combining with a chrome grille. At the rear the Sportline 60 is adorned with a roof spoiler, a colour-coded bumper and its own unique badge.

VW is marketing the model in silver or black as standard while a white version with a black roof is up for grabs as an option.

The generously-equipped interior comes with a Kenwood sat-nav infotainment system featuring smartphone mirroring functionality, DAB radio, CD player, ipod and iphone connectivity and Bluetooth. Standard kit also stretches to front and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera.

Quilted, embossed leather upholstery displays the Sportline logo and, of course, you also get the obligatory leather-covered steering wheel and gear knob. The driver gets an arm rest too.

VWs top of the range 2.0-litre BiTDI 180hp engine with maximum torque of 400Nm powers the Spotline 60 and customers can choose between six-speed manual transmission and the manufacturer’s excellent seven-speed DSG ‘box.

Excluding VAT, prices for the four-model line-up start from £29,940 for the SWB panel van with manual transmission and rise to £34,170 for the LWB Kombi with DSG transmission.
