Long Term Test Drive: VW Caddy Maxi - February 2012

Having taken to heart Volkswagen’s advertising tagline “Let’s go to work”, we decided to put our long-term Caddy Maxi through its paces with a couple of weekend garden-waste clearance jobs.
First up it got to play lumberjack’s assistant in making a couple of runs to the recycling dump laden with the freshly dismembered limbs of a chopped down tree. Next it swallowed up several bags of bamboo leaves and a couple of defunct electrical household items and deposited them at another recycling centre.
Commercial vehicles, of course, are not usually permitted to use council recycling facilities free of charge, but our Caddy Maxi Kombi, with its second row of seats and windows, sailed through unhindered.And afterwards the padded rubber floor, designed to protect van and load alike, was a doddle to clean.
