Ford leads the field in the UK’s light commercial vehicle market by a country mile, frequently monopolising the best sellers in every sector, and we recently reviewed two new models wearing the blue oval badge that look set fair to maintain the status quo.

The Courier, which is the baby in the Transit range, is particularly well-placed to tighten its grip on the compact van segment.

Having usurped the competition, with Vauxhall calling time on the Corsavan this summer, the Courier is set to duke it out with its sibling, the resurrected Fiesta Van, for sector dominance.

With all due respect to the only other established compact van, Fiat Professional’s Fiorino, it cannot compete with the Ford models in volume terms. (Read our Courier First Drive.)

The light van faces far stiffer competition than its little brother, not least from the PSA trio, the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo, which are fresh from their What Van? Awards triumph.
