Updated Ford Ranger due later in year

Date: Friday, May 15, 2009

Autumn will see the debut of a revamped Ford Ranger pick-up, with a new front bumper, wings, bonnet and grille as well as cosmetic revisions to the cab interior. It will remain available in three body configurations and with either two- or four-wheel drive.

Ford still has to dispose of stocks of the existing model in a market that’s seen overall pick-up registrations slump heavily. Substantial discounting means that it now has fewer than 1,800 Rangers available and price cuts look set to continue. “We should be sold out by August,” predicts Ford commercial vehicles director, Steve Kimber.

Unlike the existing model, new Ranger will not be available in 3.0-litre diesel automatic guise. A 3.0-litre diesel (156hp/380Nm) manual will be on offer, however, along with manual and automatic versions of the diesel 2.5-litre (143hp/330Nm).
