For the first nine months of the year registrations were up 18.4% to 168,554 compared to the same period in 2009 – reflecting eight consecutive months of year-on-year growth.
Paul Everitt, boss of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said: “The rising van figures reflect a slow but steady improvement in the UK economy, though they are still well below pre-recession levels.”
Market leader Ford increased its registrations by 13% in September to 9568 – giving it a 27% share of the overall market. In the year-to-date the brand has registered 44,525 units – up 5.6%.
Vauxhall doubled volumes in September 2010 to 5000 to claim a 14% market share. With the Vito facelift about to arrive, Mercedes saw registrations dip 6% to 2761 in September but remained 36.4% up for the year-to-date.
Citroen had a flat month with sales marginally down at 2842, but Renault, Fiat and Peugeot performed well.
