CV Show: VW shows it's Up for EV feedback

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed it is to add a petrol model to its Transporter line-up.

“We will announce pricing shortly,” UK boss Carl Zu Dohna told What Van? at the Commercial Vehicle Show.

The addition of the T6 model will mean the brand has a petrol medium van to complement the petrol engine already available in its Caddy light van range.

Volkswagen said it also has the technology in place to develop a Caddy running on compressed natural gas (CNG) and is in discussion with customers as to whether to produce one commercially.

Likewise, the brand is gauging customer feedback before committing to bring its electric city van, the e-Load-up (pictured), to market. Volkswagen displayed a model on its stand and Zu Dohna said it would suit urban-based operators needing to carry simple tool kits or deliveries of small goods.

The e-Load-up has two seats, four doors, just under 1.0m3 of load space and a payload of 360kg. The 3.6m-long van has a turning circle of 9.8m.

The van has an official range of 99 miles. Other highlights on the ‘homely’ house-style stand included a left-hand drive, factory-built three-way Crafter tipper – the first time Volkswagen has built standard Engineered to Go conversions off its production line in Wrzesnia in Poland – and a Crafter-based mobile service clinic van designed to deliver aircon servicing, MOT repairs, minor warranty work and software updates remotely.

Converted by Surrey-based Winton Engineering, the van’s equipment includes air jacks and a hand-wash basin. Seven are already in service with a further three in the pipeline.
