VW draws up plans for revised Amarok

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has revealed sketches of its facelifted Amarok pick-up truck prior to the model going on sale in the third quarter of the year.

Like the original Amarok, which launched in 2010, the revised version will target the premium end of the sector with a sophisticated interior combining with what the brand promises will be car-like road manners and full off-road capability.

The manufacturer is confident the facelifted model will tempt customers away from the SUV passenger-car segment.

Volkswagen claimed “a more athletic front and a modified instrument panel” would emphasise the Amarok’s powerful look and enhance the vehicle’s prestige credentials.

The updated Amarok will join an increasingly competitive pick-up sector that has recently welcomed new or revised models from Mitsubishi, Nissan and Ford – not to mention the forthcoming Toyota Hilux -  and is set to be swelled further by market entrants from Mercedes, Renault, Fiat Professional and PSA Peugeot Citroen within the next few years.
