Ford discloses details of second electric van

Ford has revealed details of its second all-electric van, the E-Transit Custom, before it comes to market in 2023.
The unveiling of the medium-sized van comes hot on the heals of Ford starting production of the large E-Transit in March and ties in with the introduction of the Ford Pro division, which offers fleet customers a suite of software, charging, servicing and financing solutions on a single platform, with dedicated features for electric vans, including current charging status, state of charge, and remaining range.
Ford claims the plug-in version of the UK’s top-selling van, the Transit Custom, will have a range of up to 236 miles on a single charge and says the E-Transit Custom will be supported by Ford Pro services to help increase uptime by connecting vehicle data to its dealer network and by reducing operating costs.
The manufacturer also promises fresh styling, DC fast-charging and full towing capability for the E-Transit Custom.
“This is a watershed moment for commercial vehicle operators in Europe, and another hugely significant realisation of our Ford Pro ambitions,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe.
“Europe’s best-selling van just went all-electric and supported by our unique Ford Pro one-stop-shop of productivity-boosting services the operating benefits this will bring to business across Europe cannot be overstated.”
Features of the E-Transit Custom will include ProPower Onboard technology to provide exportable power for tools, lights and devices while on worksites.
Earlier this year Ford announced that by 2024, four more new all-electric vehicles will join the E-Transit two-tonne van as part of the Transit family: the Transit Custom and Transit Courier vans, as well as Tourneo Custom and Tourneo Courier people movers.
The E-Transit Custom will enter production in the second half of 2023 at the Ford Otosan plant in Kocaeli, Turkey, where the E-Transit is already being built.
Ford has pledged to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire European operation by 2035.
