Del Boy Trotter’s iconic 1968 Reliant Regal van, which starred in the TV comedy series Only Fools and Horses, went under the hammer at Silverstone Auctions’ Classic Motor Sale at the Birmingham NEC in November.
The van was offered at No Reserve and was unofficially expected to fetch up to £20,000.
On the day, however, the three-wheeler, resplendent in tatty yellow paint and with tasteful tiger-print seat covers as well as a ‘Tax in Post’ note in the window, sold for £41,625! A result wheeler-dealer Del Boy and his brother Rodney would have appreciated as “a nice little earner”.
‘BWC 94F’ was used in the 2002 Christmas Special ‘If They Could See Us Now’ and also featured in the BBC DVD The Story of Only Fools and Horses as well as in several issues of the show fanzine Hookie Street.
With 71,778 miles recorded, the van is supplied with its original owner’s handbook, an MoT until 9 June 2018, and letters in the history file from the BBC, which confirm its authenticity.
