The brand claimed it has broken new ground in offering the longest warranty available in the sector, which it said would reassure customers in the tough economic climate and hopefully increase the desirability of used models.

UK boss Lance Bradley said: “Warranty cover for five years or 125,000 miles gives buyers of the Mitsubishi L200 peace of mind for longer than any other pick-up in the UK. What’s more, the whole L200 range will be covered.”

Competition in the pick-up sector has hotted up over the last 18 months with the arrival of major new models such as the VW Amarok, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-max. In response Mitsubishi has cut list prices on major models and is offering savings of £676 on the Warrior line-up and savings of £1400 on both the Barbarian and Walkinshaw ranges.

The Warrior now starts at £18,999, the Barbarian at £21,499 and the Walkinshaw at £23,368 – all prices exclude VAT.
