{mosimage}In the last four weeks a further six Sprinters have been stolen following the theft of 13 of the heavy vans in previous months from locations in Great Barr and Kingstanding.
A spokesman for West Midlands police told What Van? the district was a large commercial area with connections to the M6 motorway, which could provide an easy getaway route. He said an NPR (number plate recognition) camera had recorded one of the stolen Sprinters leaving on the M6.
Most of the thefts have taken place at night but police do not yet know if they are connected.
Traffic officers have stepped up patrols in the Perry Barr constituency in a bid to identify the offenders.
PC Simon Harris, of the Birmingham West and Central Vehicle Crime Team, said: “We would encourage van drivers to consider stepping up the security of their vehicles.”
He urged owners to park their vehicles in a garage if possible and to ensure it is alarmed.
“Steering locks and immobilisers can also prove an effective deterrent and owners should always remove valuables from their vans overnight,” Harris added.
