Patrick Chard, who heads up Milton Keynes firm Murrays the Printers, picked up the Kangoo Van ZE at Marshall Renault of Milton Keynes, one of the brand’s 21 ZE Expert dealerships that have invested in facilities to showcase electric vehicles in 2012.

The mass produced ZE, which recently scooped What Van?’s Van of the Year award, costs from just under £17,000 plus a separate monthly battery fee of £60.

Ian Plummer, Renault UK’s commercial operations boss, said: “Several well known UK companies have already ordered Kangoo Van ZEs for their fleet requirements so we’re sure many private customers will join Mr Chard in reaping the rewards of lower-cost and greener electric motoring.”

Chard said the ZE ticked all the boxes in terms of both promoting his business’s green credentials and delivering fuel cost savings in making local deliveries over a period of time.

The firm has installed a charging point at its office. A full charge costs up to £3 (overnight charging is cheaper) and delivers a range of up to 106 miles, according to Renault.

Renault’s preferred electric vehicle partner in the UK, British Gas, will be launching green energy tariffs in early 2012  to offer EV favourable rates.
