Long Term Test: Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian

Date: Friday, March 18, 2011

On the road the Barbarian’s imposing presence commands respect and sometimes even deference from fellow drivers, but about town, with the name prominently emblazoned down the side and a perceived lack of green credentials it can attract a certain hostility – it’s not recommended for the school run laden with just a couple of small people and their satchels, for example.
However, having said that, Mitsubishi designed the L200 with cramped UK roads in mind and it scores more highly for day-to-day usability and urban drivability than some of its rivals.
For serious load carrying, our Barbarian long-term pick-up can swallow a standard EU pallet and has a payload capacity in excess of one tonne at 1045kg. That’s been put to the test recently when Editor Barker had a ‘difficult’ house move. More on that next month. James Dallas
