The limited edition model – just 117 are bound for the UK – is powered by the manufacturer’s well-regarded 2.0 TDI with power output of 140hp, which means the van is no slouch and has particularly impressive grunt when accelerating from about 50mph. The engine is married to the superb six-speed DSG transmission on this £19,060 plus VAT model, while the manual is £1400 cheaper.
The Edition 30 possesses all the Caddy’s characteristic hallmarks of sturdiness, solid build quality and decent ride quality but a dash of extra style has been thrown in to add a little swagger to a van that, for all its virtues, could possibly be described as a little dull. Features include white bodywork contrasting with a black roof, 17-inch black alloy wheels and grey leather upholstery in the cabin.
First Drive: VW Caddy Edition 30
