There’s a single wheelbase and roof height and power comes from a 2.5-litre common rail turbodiesel capable of producing 114hp at 3,800rpm, but more importantly a substantial 343Nm of peak torque (1,750rpm – 2,500rpm). The rear wheels are driven via a five-speed manual gearbox, ventilated disc brakes are fitted all-round and ABS is a standard feature, as is hydraulic power steering.

Generally speaking iLoad is a good, reasonably refined performer with a pretty slick gearchange and predictable handling with plenty of feedback through the steering.


Access to the 4.3m3 load area is by means of twin sliding side doors or twin side-hinged rear doors. iLoad’s gross vehicle weight is 3,160kg and the payload for the panel van is 1,062kg. Six load-tie points are provided. Maximum load length is 2,375mm, the height is 1,350mm and the width is 1,620mm, narrowing to 1,260mm between the wheel boxes.

The cab is well appointed with power windows and mirrors, air conditioning, driver and passenger air bags (the Classic makes do with power windows and a driver air bag) and a good quality MP3-compatible radio/CD player. A centre seat is provided, but is of very little practical use except as a work surface when the back is folded down. The special order Crew Van provides seating for five adults, courtesy of a second row of seats.

Service intervals are way too frequent at 10,000 miles, but no one can complain about the five-year/100,000 mile mechanical warranty.



Hyundai’s iLoad ticks most of the boxes and is well worth a look.
