Hilux gets a modest revamp

Date: Thursday, October 16, 2008

Toyota's Hilux pick-up is getting a mild revamp for 2009 with a variety of modifications. A new five-speed automatic gearbox is available in the 3.0 D-4D Double Cab that adapts the shift pattern in line with driving conditions. It's accompanied by a 17Nm torque boost, increasing the maximum to 360Nm.

Changes have been made across the range to the suspension with the aim of improving handling and reducing road surface vibration, and bigger brakes are being fitted.

Exterior changes include a new front grille and bumper while Extra Cab and Double Cab variants get a lockable tailgate for use in conjunction with a hardtop. Internal alterations include fingertip controls for the audio system and the availability of a new, automatic, air-conditioning system.
