Classic Piaggio three-wheeler buzzes into the UK

Piaggio importer Perodua UK is now distributing the Italian manufacturer’s single-seater Ape three-wheeler alongside its four-wheeler Porter light commercial. Ape is Italian for bee and prices start at £3,595 plus VAT.
Sold in 50cc petrol, 218cc petrol and 422cc diesel guise, the diminutive runabout is up for grabs as a van with a load capacity of up to 2.5m3, a pick-up and, believe it or not, even as a tipper. Scooter-type handlebar controls or a conventional steering wheel are both available.
Suitable as an on-site shuttle or for short distance urban deliveries, the Ape can be driven on a provisional driving licence and has a turning circle of just 7.4m. Also on offer is the four-seater Calessino. Built for fun rather than as a load-lugger, it features wood inserts, cream upholstery and a fold-down hood.
