Volkswagon is to introduce a special edition Caddy, based on the top level Highline specification.

The Caddy Black Edition, which goes on sale from 1 October until 31 December 2014, will have £2150 worth of additional equipment, making it the most luxuriously equipped Caddy VW has produced.

The Highline specification already offers body-coloured bumpers, mirrors and door handles, fog lights, rear parking sensors, climatic air conditioning, cruise control and Bluetooth phone connectivity with trip computer and multi-function display.

The Caddy Black, which will cost £17,860 excluding VAT, adds Deep Black Pearlescent paint, black polished 17-inch alloy wheels, silver roof rails and radiator grille surround. It is only available in short-wheelbase panel van form. Dynamic Suspension has lowered the ride height by 27mm, giving the Black Edition a sportier appearance, according to VW.

Inside, drivers get a multi-functional steering wheel, leather gear knob and gaiter, heated wing mirrors, electric windows and leather trim seats as standard. The cabin is separated from the 3.2m³ load space by a full-height solid bulkhead.

The van will be powered by a 1.6-litre TDI engine, which produces 102hp and 250Nm of torque and will be offered with a five-speed manual transmission. With Bluemotion technology, which includes hill-hold assist, energy recuperation and start/stop, VW cites fuel economy of 55.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 134g/km.

The current Caddy had its last facelift in 2010 so a new one is likely to appear within the next 18 months.

VW is also launching a special edition Dark Label Amarok pick-up on 22 September.

Just 300 examples will be available in the UK – 50 six-speed manual selectable 4Motion models, priced from £26,125, excluding VAT, and 250 eight-speed automatic permanent 4Motion models, £27,855 excluding VAT, which include Bluemotion technology. Both are powered by VW’s 2.0 180hp BiTDI engine.

Styling features include 18-inch black Durban alloy wheels, extended wheel arches and an underride guard below the front bumper. The Dark Label theme also extends to dark tinted rear/side windows, darkened tail lights, matt black side bars and footstep, a black rear bumper, black grained door handles and black foil on the B-pillars.

The cabin gets anthracite Alcantara upholstery and velour floor mats with Dark Label branding.
