The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) has launched a new virtual reality (VR) driver training tool.
It is designed to allow drivers to experience high-risk scenarios from the safety of the classroom, and provide a flexible alternative to practical on-site training.
Drivers will experience 20 different interactive scenarios – in full 360-degree view – spanning urban, rural, and motorway environments, encompassing various vehicle types including vans, as well as HGVs and also passenger-carrying vehicles.
FORS concession director Geraint Davies said: “This VR training module really takes our driver training to the next level.
“We have strived to create a truly immersive and highly realistic experience. The training module covers a wide range of vehicle types and diverse road conditions, offering drivers the unique opportunity to see the road from different perspectives – and especially those of vulnerable road users.
“Crucially, this technology allows drivers to be placed in consistent high-risk situations without any actual danger, enabling them to experience and learn from multiple challenging situations in a short period.
“Developed to the FORS Professional standard, this module delivers an unparalleled level of training that redefines driver education and safety.”
