Iveco eDaily vans have joined the fleet of Maidstone Borough Council, for use by its environmental services team.

The two 4.25t beavertail vehicles were supplied by Haynes Trucks Ltd, which is also set to provide the council with a number of eDaily caged tippers over the coming months.

The beavertail bodies were supplied by AFKS Specialist Vehicles Engineering, which is said to have worked closely with Haynes and the council to fine tune the vehicles’ spec.

An anti-slip beavertail load surface on the eDaily chassis is sprung, allowing for safer loading and unloading of ride-on lawnmowers.

Secure tool pods behind the eDaily’s cab are designed so drivers can safely store tools and spare fuel for the mowers.

At the rear of the vans, narrow lights are housed on the chassis frame, which protects them from damage.

The eDailys replaced old diesel vans, and are said to have saved more than 2,000kg of CO2 since entering use.

Council cabinet member for environmental services and enforcement Clive English said: “Like many councils around the country, Maidstone Borough Council is exploring ways to reduce its carbon emissions across various sectors – especially those that involve transport and vehicles.

“These new Iveco eDailys have exceeded all expectations and have allowed us to continue providing services to our community with lower carbon emissions than ever before.”

Iveco business line director full range UK and Ireland Mike Cutts said: “The Iveco eDaily has been meticulously perfected since its inception to deliver a performance that rivals its diesel counterpart.

“It’s great to see these vehicles delivering a zero-emission solution without compromise for Maidstone Borough Council.”
